I know not all of us have the gift of evangelism but we all have been given gifts to lead others into the light. If we didn't then Jesus would have told some of you are to go, but he told ALL to go.
When I see people spending great means, time and money to only say abortion is wrong and its a sin and we must change the law. I ask why? As a believer I know that it is wrong, it is a sin and I know that through the wisdom of being a believer in Jesus Christ. So why do you feel people in darkness can see this. It grieves me dearly when I see people inflicting hate into an all ready hard and painful time or subject in the name of Jesus. I once heard a sermon by a pastor I have great respect for. In this sermon he talked about politicians who run on an outlawing of abortion platform without legalisation providing funding for low-income single moms. You see most people who want an abortion does it because they can't see any other way out. Why? Because they are in the dark and don't know how to take care of the child, can't feed the child, can't pay for medical bills for the child . . .etc.
During this time of financial meltdown, I see this hate again. I see people provoking hate in the name of Jesus Christ. Christians saying that budget cut are the Christian thing to do. May it never be! At this time there are more people out of work since the 1930s. Just like the young poor girl who finds herself pregnant and without hope, so are the jobless living in a new-found poverty. Both are without hope, feelings of worthlessness, unloved and that no one cares for them, with no place to turn. This is the time you as a believer is give the chance to reach out and to reflect the face of God into the heart of someone in darkness. But no I have hear the voice of the believer saying to them, you are worthless, less them zero and most of all lower then me. It sickens me everyday when I see post (on line) or hear reports of people in or on media (Papers, TV, Radio)of Christians doing just this. I hear about the liberal press which is the battle cry of put forth by Fox News, so you watch them. The same form of press provided by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp that brought you the British World News. I feel like I'm getting this regurgitated, ear tickling, garbage, spurted out by Christians daily. We are told to be in the Word and not the words of men. (Just one rabbit hole I need to go down, Glenn Beck is not a Christian, see side post of the Church of Jesus Christ Later Day Saints)
So I guess the main point of this post, we are to be the light in this world. We are to spend time in the Word not the world. Provide hope to others through belief in Jesus. Don't expect people who don't know Christ to have insight into sinfulness. We need to start spending time turning people towards Christ not away. If I were looking at Jesus's people the Church through the eyes of the unbeliever, I would see a lot of selfish, damming, self-righteous batch of blow hearts. Not unlike another group of people Jesus had confronted during his time on earth, the Pharisees. John called them vipers (Matthew 3:7) but Jesus himself address them in Matthew 23. In this passage Jesus started 7 of the verses with Woe. One of the thing I learned during my time at Bible college is Woe is really bad and in the scriptures the more a word is repeated the worst it is. In this chapter of Matthew Jesus Woes the pharisees for turning people away for God. Verses 13 through 15 He talks about how this is done, through taking from the widows (which were the poor) proselyte others to do the same for the sake of gold. And by the way in verse 19 calls them blind.
So when you spent time trying to ban or outlaw something, would the better solution be to spend that effort bringing others into the light? Then when others find Jesus the consensus will be for righteousness and they will have life. Remember we are called to GO! We are to make disciples, not to spreed hate.
