The Truth Will Set You Free! ( response to Atlas Shrugged)

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life." - John 14:6

Having read and viewed the movie (Part 1) Atlas Strugged, I thought, nice conspiracy theory story.  Just as in other work of fiction, one must employ the suspension of disbelief to enjoy the conclusions it makes.  Think not much more about it.  Then as this campaign season heated up, I heard more and more people expressing that this book, Atlas Strugged, and Ayn Rand has changed their life and the way they view the world.  Being that the only book that I have read that changed my life is the Bible and I have read a lot of books, I needed to look more into this growing trend.
Ayn Rand was born in Russia in 1905 and then moved to the US in 1926, becoming then a citizen.  Rand advocated reason as the only means of acquiring knowledge and rejected all forms of faith and religion. She supported rational and ethical egoism, and rejected ethical altruism. In politics, she condemned the initiation of force as immoral and opposed all forms of collectivism and statism, instead supporting laissez-faire capitalism, which she believed was the only social system that protected individual rights. She promoted romantic realism in art. She was sharply critical of the philosophers and philosophical traditions known to her, except Aristotle. Her philosophy is known as Objectivism.

Objectivism, holds that:
Reality exists as an objective absolute—facts are facts, independent of man’s feelings, wishes, hopes or fears.

Reason (the faculty which identifies and integrates the material provided by man’s senses) is man’s only means of perceiving reality, his only source of knowledge, his only guide to action, and his basic means of survival.

Man—every man—is an end in himself, not the means to the ends of others. He must exist for his own sake, neither sacrificing himself to others nor sacrificing others to himself. The pursuit of his own rational self-interest and of his own happiness is the highest moral purpose of his life.

The ideal political-economic system is laissez-faire capitalism. It is a system where men deal with one another, not as victims and executioners, nor as masters and slaves, but as traders, by free, voluntary exchange to mutual benefit. It is a system where no man may obtain any values from others by resorting to physical force, and no man may initiate the use of physical force against others. The government acts only as a policeman that protects man’s rights; it uses physical force only in retaliation and only against those who initiate its use, such as criminals or foreign invaders. In a system of full capitalism, there should be (but, historically, has not yet been) a complete separation of state and economics, in the same way and for the same reasons as the separation of state and church. - Ayn Rand, from the Ayn Rand Institute.

As a Christian I found this to rather disturbing that Rand believes that there is only truth without God.
16 "And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever  17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you."  - John 14: 16-20
I believe that the only truth comes from God and it is this wisdom, we as Christians must live by.
Another sticking point should be Rand's rejection of ethical altruism, which Rand herself put so nicely, "every man, is an end in himself, not the means to the ends of others. He must exist for his own sake, neither sacrificing himself to others nor sacrificing others to himself. The pursuit of his own rational self-interest and of his own happiness is the highest moral purpose of his life."  Since this goes against everything I believe in with my whole heart and my life verse from the Bible I myself find this the most disturbing.
"16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 17 If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.19 This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence." 1 John 3:16- 19
Then for our economist friends and small business owners the embracement of laissez-faire.  This system promotes and encourages monopolies.

So in conclusion let me leave you with the words of Paul to the Ephesians.
"10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." - Ephesians 6: 10-17
